Robust increase in population exposure to heat stress with increasing global warming

چکیده

Abstract Extreme heat, particularly if combined with humidity, poses a severe risk to human health. To estimate future global of extreme heat humidity on health, we calculate indicators stress that have been commonly used: the Heat Index, Wet-Bulb Globe Temperature and Temperature, from latest Climate Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6) projections. We analyse how where different levels hazards will change, deadly, results are sensitive choice index used. evaluate this at country-level use population GDP | PPP growth scenario vulnerability each nation. Consistent previous studies, find South East Asia, Middle-East, highly exposed hazards, exposure increases by 20%–60% mean temperature change 1.5 3 ? C. However, also substantial in health for some vulnerable countries less adaptive capacity, such as West Africa, Central America. For these regions, about 20 more than 50% could be year average, independent warming , European USA several times per conditions daily level equal maximum 2003 wave.

Global warming without global mean precipitation increase?

Global climate models simulate a robust increase of global mean precipitation of about 1.5 to 2% per kelvin surface warming in response to greenhouse gas (GHG) forcing. Here, it is shown that the sensitivity to aerosol cooling is robust as well, albeit roughly twice as large. This larger sensitivity is consistent with energy budget arguments. At the same time, it is still considerably lower tha...

Robust Hadley Circulation changes and increasing global dryness due to CO2 warming from CMIP5 model projections.

In this paper, we investigate changes in the Hadley Circulation (HC) and their connections to increased global dryness (suppressed rainfall and reduced tropospheric relative humidity) under CO2 warming from Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) model projections. We find a strengthening of the HC manifested in a "deep-tropics squeeze" (DTS), i.e., a deepening and narrowing of th...

Increase of global monsoon area and precipitation under global warming: A robust signal?

[1] Monsoons, the most energetic tropical climate system, exert a great social and economic impact upon billions of people around the world. The global monsoon precipitation had an increasing trend over the past three decades. Whether or not this increasing trend will continue in the 21st century is investigated, based on simulations of three high-resolution atmospheric general circulation mode...

Changes in Heat Index Associated with Co2-induced Global Warming

Changes in Heat Index (a combined measure of temperature and humidity) associated with global warming are evaluated based on the output from four extended integrations of the GFDL coupled ocean-atmosphere climate model. The four integrations are: a control with constant levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2), a second integration in which an estimate of the combined radiative forcing of gre...

Global warming due to increasing absorbed solar radiation

[1] Global climate models used in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) are examined for the top-of-atmosphere radiation changes as carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases build up from 1950 to 2100. There is an increase in net radiation absorbed, but not in ways commonly assumed. While there is a large increase in the greenhouse effect from incre...
